Rafting isn’t just for adrenaline junkies—there are plenty of family-friendly options that make the experience both fun and safe for younger kids and older adults alike. At Canadian Rockies Rafting, we offer a variety of trips tailored to different age groups and skill levels.

Here are just a few examples of family-friendly rafting options you can enjoy together:

1. Scenic Float Trips on the Bow River

For families with young children, older adults, or those looking for a relaxing experience, our friends at Canmore Raft Tours provide scenic float trips on the Bow River – it’s the perfect relaxing experience.  These leisurely trips take you through calm stretches of the river, offering stunning views of the peaks surrounding Canmore, Alberta, such as the Three Sisters, Ha Ling Peak, East end of Rundle and Lady McDonald.  There’s also a chance of wildlife sightings; it’s a peaceful way to enjoy the outdoors. It’s also the perfect way to introduce little ones to the joys of rafting without worrying about intense rapids.

These trips are also ideal for those who want to relax and take in the landscape, with Guides offering interesting insights into the history and ecology of the area. It’s a great way for families to connect with nature and create lasting memories.

2. Family-Friendly Whitewater Rafting

For families with kids, at least 5 years old, or teens looking for a bit more excitement, our Kananaskis Whitewater Tours offer the perfect balance of thrill and safety. This tour features moderate rapids with class 2-3 rapids, giving everyone in the family a chance to paddle, splash, and have a blast. With the guidance of our experienced and safety-focused Raft Guides, your family can safely enjoy navigating the waves together while having fun in the whitewater.

Everyone will love the adrenaline rush of paddling through the rapids, but don’t worry—our Guides will ensure that everyone is well-prepared and stays safe as you ride the waves.

3. Something a Bit More…

For those families looking to take the adventure level up a notch, but not quite ready for that class 4 rating, our Kananaskis Surf Trip is the experience you are looking for. Utilizing the playful class 2-3 rapids that the Kananaskis River is known for, we punch through the rapids and then turn back up stream, power paddle our way back into the whitewater and surf for as long as possible.

It’s a unique and playful Whitewater Rafting experience that you don’t do everyday. Definitely an experience that your family will be talking about for years to come.

Safety Comes First

We understand that when it comes to family adventures, safety is the number one priority. At Canadian Rockies Rafting, we take extensive precautions to ensure that each guest, regardless of age or experience, enjoys a safe and comfortable rafting experience.

Each guest is geared up wearing top-quality safety gear, including wet suits, life jackets and helmets.  While on the water, the tour is well equipped with a full range of stocked first aid material including oxygen and AED.

Our Guides are certified professionals with varying years of experience on the water and hold first aid qualifications from 80 hours to Paramedic. Our guides are trained to manage river dynamics and lead guests through rapids in the safest way possible, making sure that even the youngest and oldest rafters have a smooth and enjoyable experience.

Before each trip, we also provide a thorough safety briefing, teaching everyone the basics of rafting, how to paddle, and what to do in different scenarios on the river. With our Guides ensuring everyone’s safety, you can focus on enjoying the experience as a family.

Family Bonding on the River

There’s something magical about spending quality time together on the river. Rafting creates the perfect environment for family bonding—whether you’re working together to navigate a set of rapids, pointing out wildlife along the riverbank, or simply enjoying each other’s company as you venture along the water.

From paddling in sync to cheering each other on through the rapids, rafting encourages teamwork and communication, all while making lasting memories.
